The Psalms appointed for the day are recited or sung.
After the Psalms are concluded, the following Doxology is sung.
S C R I P T U R E R E A D I N G
As appointed in the Daily Office Lectionary.
You will need to scroll down to access the Readings, which are provided after a selection of Psalms.
You may change the translation in the upper left hand corner of the Bible Gateway page.
If your selected translation does not include the Deuterocanonical Books,
you may miss Old Testament readings at times. Changing to one of the NRSV versions should solve this problem.
Currently, we recommend using the Old Testament for the Matins Reading,
the Gospels for the Diurnium Reading,
and the New Testament for the Vespers reading.

Father, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and to put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son came to visit us in great humility; that on the Last Day, when he shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to everlasting life. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
L E N T A N D P A S S I O N T I D E
Father, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent. Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our failings, may obtain of you, the source of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Father, you gladden our hearts through our weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of your Son. Give us this day such blessing through our worship of you, that the week to come may be spent in your favor. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty and everlasting Father, source of every good and perfect gift, send forth upon all bishops and clergy, and upon the congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of your grace; and, that they may truly please you, pour upon them the continual dew of your blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honor of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

O King eternal, your light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty and everlasting God, your Spirit sanctifies and governs the whole body of your faithful people. Receive the supplications and prayers we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, author of peace and lover of concord, to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom. Defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
W E D N E S D A Y
Almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day. Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may neither fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Father, grant that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart [especially the hearts of the people of this land], that the barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
T H U R S D A Y
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being. Guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Loving God, your care reaches to the uttermost parts of the earth and beyond. We humbly beseech you, in your goodness, to behold and bless those whom we love, now absent from us. Defend them from all dangers of soul and body; and grant that both they and we, drawing nearer to you, may be bound together by your love in the fellowship of your Holy Spirit, and in communion with all your saints. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
F R I D A Y
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace. So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray, as you see fit, always to your glory, and for the welfare of your people, and of our world. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
S A T U R D A Y
Almighty God, after the creation of the world you rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures. Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Loving Father, in the course of this busy life, give us times of refreshment and peace; and grant that we may so use our leisure to rebuild our bodies and renew our minds, that our spirits may be opened to the goodness of your creation. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of his saints.
During one of the Offices of the day, a brief hagiographical sketch related to the day's commemoration is shared, or a short excerpt of their writings (or a writing concerning them) is read.
The Commemoration concludes:
O God, we praise you, we confess that you alone are Lord,
The everlasting Father, by the whole of earth adored.
To you all angels cry aloud, to you the pow’rs on high,
Both cherubim and seraphim, continually do cry:
T H E G E N E R A L T H A N K S G I V I N G
This prayer may be omitted on non-festal weekdays.
This prayer may be said by the Officiant alone, or by all.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for the goodness and loving-kindness you have made known to us, and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love, which you have made known to us in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may proclaim your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, is justly due all honor and glory now and forever, and throughout all the ages. Amen.

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered in his name you will be in their midst. Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world the knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come everlasting life. Amen.
